Teacher of English

Salary: Main Scale (London Fringe) £26,948 to £38,174

We have a vacancy for a teacher of English who will help develop the curriculum at KS3 and KS4.  

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Ensuring a high-quality learning experience for students according to their educational needs, meeting internal and external quality standards. 
  • Planning lessons using a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning and ensure progress appropriate to student needs and curriculum demands.
  • Setting and marking work, supporting the school’s expectations.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on attendance, progress, development and attainment of students.
  • Maintaining discipline, punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
  • Developing English curriculum at KS3 and KS4.
  • Contributing to department enrichment activities.
  • Actively promoting the school’s ethos in spiritual, moral and social responsibility - being a positive role model.
  • Performing the duties of a Form Tutor:
    • Working with students, registering them, accompanying them to assemblies, encouraging their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of school life.
    • Providing ‘first line’ support and guidance to students to meet their personal development and achievement needs and promoting the general progress and wellbeing of students.
    • Evaluating, monitoring and reporting on the progress and achievement of each student in both curricular achievements and extra-curricular activities.
    • Taking actions to resolve students’ problems, escalating as appropriate.
    • Communicating with the parents and others regarding students’ welfare.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent with an appropriate degree and good academic background (essential)
  • Be secondary trained (essential)
  • Be an established teacher (essential)
  • Have excellent subject knowledge of the subjects they are trained to teach including, specifically, English (essential)
  • Have a commitment to (essential):
    • The principle of comprehensive education, believing all children can be successful
    • Staff participation in decision-making and consultation
    • The pursuit of high standards, both academic and behavioural
    • Quality provision for all pupils including SEN and more able students
    • Development of high-quality programmes of study in English
  • Possess excellent communication skills and be (essential):
    • Efficient and organised
    • Able to initiate change
    • Creative
    • An effective teacher
    • Able to function creatively and generously in a mutually supportive team

This position will be located at Jubilee High School in Addlestone, Surrey

Start date: 1st January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This is a full-time post.  Contracted working hours will be 32.5 hours per week.
