Jubilee High: International dimension

“Putting the world into World-Class Education”

We live in one world. What we do affects others and what others do affects us as never before. Our vision for the school is to produce global citizens and as part of that we aim:-

  1. to prepare students for work in a global economy
  2. to work with schools abroad to establish relationships and share good practice
  3. to help students to understand the key concepts necessary for life in a global society – citizenship, social justice, sustainable development, diversity, values and perceptions, interdependence, conflict resolution and human rights.

Jubilee High launched its international dimension in the summer term of 2005-2006 and highlighted its international community in a One World Display. We are a mini international community. Since then our international programme has gone from strength to strength.

We have held very successful International Weeks involving American and Asian dance, food, film, Amnesty International, speakers from charities such as Tearfund, Compassion, and Humanity First, a European Medieval Fayre, a Chinese presentation and an amazing Project Africa with participating staff in full African dress.

As part of the Government’s International School Award (accreditation of good practice in the international dimension) we have been successful in achieving an International School Award. We now have links with Elde College in the Netherlands, Little Flower School in South Africa and the New Huangpu Experimental School in Shanghai,China. In July 2008 we took a party of 8 students to Shanghai and in May we continued our exchange with Elde College by hosting a party of students from the Netherlands. Our photos are displayed in the Gallery Section.

This year 3 teachers were chosen to be part of the Teachers International Professional Development programme and were part of a group of four schools who spent 10 days travelling to Adelaide, Australia to look at turning around challenging schools. Our photos are in the Gallery.
